KENTUCKY CAMPUS COMPACT (KYCC) works to achieve three goals: college access, college success and community impact. The KyCC AmeriCorps VISTA program was created in 2006 through a partnership between KyCC and the Kentucky State Office of the Corporation for National and Community Service. This program was developed in response to the needs of KyCC member campuses and in recognition of the potential for institutions of higher education to more responsibly address the local needs of low-income communities, and be responsible mechanisms for community change.
In 2013, the TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE KENTUCKY (TASK) program was launched to answer the call of the growing AmeriCorps VISTA presence in Kentucky. Through TASK, Kentucky Campus Compact is able to expand our reach and place over 50 VISTA members to not only member colleges and universities but also the Kentucky Promise Zone, Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR), and small nonprofit organizations throughout Kentucky communities that are combating poverty.
TASK VISTA members achieve the AmeriCorps anti-poverty goals through indirect service activities in the areas of economic development and opportunity, organizational capacity building, Pre-K to Post-Secondary educational programming, nutritional and community health awareness, leadership development, and assisting Veteran and military families.
AMERICORPS VISTA - VOLUNTEERS IN SERVICE TO AMERICA - was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs under the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Nationwide, AmeriCorps VISTA members leverage human, financial, and material resources to increase the capacity of low-income communities across the country. When VISTA members complete their service they leave behind lasting solutions to some of our countries toughest problems.
