Kentucky Advising Academy

About KAA

Sponsored by the Council on Postsecondary Education and the Kentucky Campus Compact, the Kentucky Advising Academy is launching in early 2022! AmeriCorps members will lead a free comprehensive series of professional learning events and connect school counselors, teachers, and Family Resource/Youth Service Center (FRYSC) coordinators with college access resources. School professionals will have flexible opportunities to connect and learn with higher education and counselor leaders. The academy will consist of insightful discussions, updates and advising strategies relevant to transitioning to the ever-changing postsecondary landscape.

Goal: to enhance professional learning and build the capacity of school counselors, teachers, and FRYSC coordinators statewide.

Structure: the structure of the academy will include a variety of options giving school counselors, teachers, and FRYSC coordinators the freedom to take part in learning that aligns with their specific professional needs and availability.
Some examples include:

  • Face-to-face professional learning meetings as part of a geographical cohort/series
  • Virtual professional learning meetings/series
  • Face-to-face mentoring and support in schools, FRYSCs and institutions of higher education
  • Development and promotion of a school counselor’s college and career counseling toolkit
  • Development and promotion of online guidance and sample counseling plans
